Developed entirely independently, the Nara project was born from a genuine desire to welcome and support migrants and refugees as they arrive in Brazil. Initially focused on the city of São Paulo, the project brings together and organizes essential information, contacts, and practical guidance in one place. Our goal is to simplify the first steps of this new journey, making Nara your best friend as you adapt to the country.
Why leave? They are forced to flee their own country to save their life or freedom (because of war, political or religious persecution, racial persecution, or serious human rights violations).
Can they return? They cannot safely return to their country of origin because they face a real risk.
Protection: The government of their country of origin no longer protects them, so Brazil and the international community ensure their protection (refugees have the right not to be returned to a place of danger). In Brazil, the agency responsible for reviewing asylum cases is CONARE -> start your process by clicking the link.
Why do they leave? They choose to move to another country in search of a better life (work, studies, family reunification, or better financial circumstances).
Can they return? They keep their citizenship and passport from their country and can return safely whenever they wish.
Protection: They continue to receive support from the consulate or embassy of their country of origin.
